New Era for Regional Security as Major General Godwin Mutkut Takes Helm of MNJTF

Major General Godwin Mutkut has assumed command as the new Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF). The handover ceremony, held at the MNJTF Headquarters in N’Djamena, Chad, marked the beginning of a new chapter in the fight against terrorism and instability in the Lake Chad Basin.

Major General Mutkut takes over from Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, whose tenure saw notable achievements in strengthening regional security and counterterrorism efforts. In his inaugural address, Major General Mutkut expressed gratitude to the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and contributing member states for the confidence placed in him. He pledged to build on the successes of his predecessors and continue advancing the MNJTF’s mission of promoting peace and stability in the region.

With his extensive operational experience, exemplary leadership, and unwavering commitment to duty, Major General Mutkut is well-equipped to lead the MNJTF. His previous roles include Commander of Sector 3 MNJTF, General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army, and Force Commander of Operation HADARIN DAJI in Nigeria.

The MNJTF is a combined multinational formation comprising units from Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria. Its mandate is to bring an end to the Boko Haram insurgency and promote peace and stability in the Lake Chad Basin.

As the new Force Commander, Major General Mutkut will play a crucial role in addressing the complex security dynamics within the Lake Chad region. His appointment underscores the commitment of member states to ensuring capable leadership in the fight against terrorism and instability.
